New Deal 3

I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Once we re-discover what the US is, once we attain our proper Vision, we can apply it to the issues of our day so as to develop the solutions of our day.  This is what FDR and the American people tried to do last time we were broken, and this is what America must do again in our day.  America’s proper Vision, in my humble opinion, is this:

We are a Body of mankind on a quest, and it is nothing short of the quest for the Holy Grail.  A quest to, in the best way we possibly can, accomplish heaven on earth.  Call it “Mission: Impossible.”  But it nevertheless is our mission, the meaning of Life, the reason for politics… and the purpose of the Us… it’s what our nation is all about.  We have been tasked by our Creator to do our utmost, for every day while we walk this earth, to create a Great Society for mankind.  That is what we are on this earth to do, that is the Vision that created the US, and that is what We the People must re-discover today.

It is not about you or I, it is not even about the United States of America, it is about US, the Body of Mankind.  This is what every Great Leader throughout time has known, this is what our founders understood when they formed our great country, and this is what we must re-discover and act upon.

I believe our mission, as citizens in our world, is nothing less than this noble quest.  And like Arthurian Legend informs us, we need to find our leader to remove the gridlock, gather some good knights with him at the oval office, and re-embark on our mission to find the best society for man.  We must continue in our never-ending quest for heaven on earth… the quest to discover what policies lead us to become the Great Society… the quest for the Holy Grail.

So with that grandiose vision revealed, America, my friends and fellow people, let us now ask ourselves, again in our day, “In what political environment do we think Man best excels?”  If we were to clear the table this very day, if we were to let go of what we are doing and ask ourselves, “What should we do to create a better Society?”, if we were to honestly look at where we are today and evaluate our past choices and their results, what would be our resulting course?

Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” – Thomas Jefferson

I have asked myself this question… and attempted to actually answer it.  The process has developed my Vision of a Great Society, my thoughts for a better future, my preferred course toward attaining the best “US.”  And I’m afraid, it is not represented by a political platform in my country.  Rather, I find that neither political platform is pursuing our proper course and so we wander aimlessly.  When I look at both our past and current state, when I compare what we have to what I believe we want, when I look at what our current practices are actually achieving, I conclude that we need another “New Deal.”  FDR please show yourself, we need “New Deal 3,” we need a third choice.  Hey Arthur, it’s time for you to grab Excalibur and get us out of this mess.

Three is the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three.” – Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail

Our economy of debt, our dialogue, our country is so off track that its once again time for caring and reasonable men and women to grab the helm and bring upon a new steer.  Come on good Knights, let’s count to three, break the sword from the stone, and promote good order from the round table.  For our oval office could use some good knights… our country, our world needs us to re-engage.  As in Arthurian legend, our great land is decaying, our political process is broken, and our course is seemingly gridlocked in an unmovable stone… only a fresh start brought upon by some of our greatest champions can save us.

I do not look upon these United States as a finished product. We are still in the making.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

I believe we are off course, and I believe that our proper course will be obtained if we but reveal our common ground.  I believe the course we should take today is brought upon by realizing this:

Limited Government is the right answer.  The private sector works better than a government program, and federally funded welfare is not working.  Funding this Limited Government by encumbering our wealthier citizens with the tax burden is the right answer.  Having those of us who succeed pay a larger share of our society’s bill works better than tax breaks on our wealthy.

Short story in my humble opinion – We the People need to abandon both federal government welfare and trickle down economics from our Plan and return to our roaring 20’s again, this time with some universal healthcare, education, and required government regulation on our banking industry.  But the problem, as I see it, is that neither political platform is pursuing this course.  Although I don’t believe this new course is necessarily the “be all, end all” of our existence, I do think that it is the “right path” for us to embark upon today.

It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Please my friends, let’s get to work on finding solutions to America’s very real problems.  I’ve written down my ideas for various issues here and labelled it “New Deal 3.”  To skip to the summary, click here.  As FDR said, we’re a work in progress.  I certainly am not the best qualified and I don’t claim to have all the answers.  I am just a person, like you, who cares – maybe that makes me the best qualified, I don’t know.  But let’s talk about it, what do we want the New Deal 3 to look like?  I’ve been reading, searching, trying to discover my opinions… and I’d love to hear yours.

Now is the time America.  This is the year to vote in our proper course – we’ve been off track for so long that we have accumulated over $15 thousand thousand million in debt and growing rapidly… this is the year for us to re-engage politically and act.

We must step outside of the Republican-Democrat box, step outside of ourselves even, and ask, “If I were that country, if I was more worried about me as a whole than about any of my individual members, if I wanted to treat my members fair but, first and foremost, ensure I was healthy for years to come and shepherd my next generation to reach their potential, what would I do?”

In my humble opinion, We the People should not have government social welfare programs that tax the working to pay for the others.  We can see it now, the reality is not only that we’re bankrupt, but that we are broken and reliant on a dis-functional government.  It’s time for a new direction as we see that government welfare programs cause our society to break apart rather than to unite.  They cause us to become entitlement-minded and detached, instead of charitably minded and concerned.   We tried to feed our poor, home our homeless, “help” our poor through government, but we are ready to try a new direction, a New Deal.  We’re supposed to help the needy through community, charity, mentorship, education, and giving – not through government welfare programs, and we’re ready to pursue this new course.  We see this now… We see it again.

It isn’t sufficient just to want – you’ve got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Also, we are ready to reject Trickle-Down Economics as our mantra going forward.  We are not meant to have a federal “fair” tax, where our system’s tax burden is shared equally by all.  Instead of tax breaks on our wealthy bringing our society up through job creation, they produce a bankrupt nation, high unemployment, and a large wealth gap at 1%-99%.  We don’t want this.  We understand that we are supposed to ask our wealthiest to pay a larger share of the tax burden to pay our bills – this is how we have a large middle class and a healthy society.  We see this now… We see it again.

Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Somehow, in our hurry, worry, and day to day activities, we forgot that we are engaged on a quest.  Whether we know it or not, whether we want to be or not, the quest continues just the same.  And we are failing.  We are bankrupt, with a broken political process, and 2 political platforms — each with a different wrong answer.  My fellow Americans, it’s time for us to care once again about the US.  It’s time for us to come together.

Competition has been shown to be useful up to a certain point and no further, but cooperation, which is the thing we must strive for today, begins where competition leaves off.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

It’s time for us to figure out our new plan toward establishing the best society we can.  It’s time for our next “New Deal” in our never ending quest for peace on earth and good will toward men — the quest for the Holy Grail!

In February 2010, President Obama formed a bipartisan commission, called the Bowles–Simpson Commission, to recommend steps that could be taken to reduce future budget deficits. The commission released its report on November 10, 2010, which recommended deep domestic and military spending cuts, reforming the tax system by eliminating many tax breaks in return for lower overall rates, and reducing benefits for Social Security and Medicare. The plan did not receive the supermajority vote within the commission which it needed to be directly sent to Congress, and portions of the plan were rejected by both parties.” – Wikipedia

    • Federally – Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Healthcare, Military, and Education.

States, Counties, Cities, Communities – whatever they decide to… by comparing them all, we’ll find the best answer for “Us.”
